Backstory

After an incident as a child with her twin brother Riley and their powers, they both recieve life changing injuries and become aware of just how dangerous they can when working as one unit. This causes Commisioner Hope, one of the leaders of the Prodigal Safety Program, to intervene. She takes them into the isolated community to recover and grow up able to safely manage their technicalities.

A few years into their Stay Riley goes missing with no explanation.

Several years later, new revalations about that day come to light, along with a compass that becomes fixed on a specific point whenever she uses her power. With new hope of finding her long lost twin, she finds herself setting out into the society that shes been estranged from. And the further she journies outward, the more things about her childhood don't seem to be what they first appeared...

(Spoilers underneath)

Wynn was born in Founderlund. She is the older twin between her and her brother Riley by 12 minutes. They weren't extremely wealthy by any means, but they lived comfortably; spending most of her time at home with her small family. Her father walked on her mother when he discovered she was pregnant and she didn't want to get rid of them. (pic next to this paragraph as the twins as newborns with their mum.)

By the time wynn was 9 years old, her mother had gotten really ill from a disease that no doctor or specialist could name and eventually passed away. Before she died, she told wynn to look after Riley since he'd always been a lot weaker than her, and that they only have each other in this world now. After this she and riley were placed into the foster system to be raised by volenteer families. She never really spoke much with the other children there, or even whoever her foster parents were at the time - especially since they moved homes a lot. So Wynn ended only up only really speaking to Riley, even when asking for something, she'd say it to him and he'd relay the message.

Then when she was 14 years old, her and riley were messing about with their powers together, and were planning to use them to run away together, because anywhere would be better than constantly being pushed from to home, so long as they were together... though this went horribly wrong.

When using their technicalities, the two got caught in each others' portal rifts. And since they're twins, they had both assumed that they could simply pass through each others portals and use them as if it were their own. but they couldn't, since they're two seperate people after all. This causes Wynn to lose her right leg just above the knee, and Riley to lose parts of both legs and most of one of his arms.

The two were found by their foster dad and taken to hospital, causing an investigation to be opened. Naturally this drew the attention of Prodigal; More specifically Commisioner Mara Hope. A lead overseer for the Acadamy and Rehab for Misdemeaning Youths

The organisation takes over their guardianship and moves them to live within their gated community with other volitile-powered children so they can be safely raised and cared for, along with giving them proper training to manage their powers.

At the Acadamy, true to her closed off nature, she cant find common ground with anyone that tries to talk to her. Often scaring them off with how intense she is, and her protective nature over Riley, who's still got a much longer recovery journey than she does; but she's content with only having him to talk to.

But then she meets Oleander; a boy with a spectral ability that was taken in when he was only 7 years old. He has no memories of life outside the gate, though that doesnt stop him from being someone she finds herself relating to and getting along with. She slowly becomes friends with him during her recovery (mainly through how fast he and Riley started to become comfortable with each other), and the three of them become a small band of misfits within the misfits (pic of them three as kids )

Wynn finds herself actually enjoying the power management training they have to do, and even opts to do a lot of the voluntary ones as well. Finally finding something other than protecting her brother that she wants. Wanting something for herself, for the first time since her mother died; and she's actually pretty good at it too.
A year later, Arri joins the Acadamy; far more childish than the others and somewhat annoying in Wynns' opinion, with his eagerness to be part of their gang. They do their best to make him welcome with them, especially since a lot of the others at Prodigal find him off-putting due to the rumours surrounding him.

When she's 17, Riley disappears without a trace during the annual Inauguration Ceremony for the newest members of the Elite teams. The staff at the acadamy, and even the Elite team themselves, search for him to no avail.
After that she completely shuts down emotionally. The only person who can still somewhat get through to her is Oleander, but even then the walls she's built up are too high to truly break through anymore. With nothing else to hang onto anymore, she dedicates most of her time to working out and training her technicality. Aiming to become one of the Elite Teams' members, maybe even a platinum one day.

Days turn into weeks, turn into months. into years. Spending most of each free moment running drills and pushing herself harder and harder until she's called aside one day by Commisioner Hope. She tells Wynn that if she keeps this up, there's potentially a spot on Elite with her name on it. This is what she's been working so hard for, and its finally happening.
Though when she tells this to Oleander, he seems hesitant, almost guilty. Wynn presses the isse but it turns into a big argument and he storms out… but Oleander later returns in the dead of night to apologise- and give her a box.

Inside is a letter from Riley, written seven years ago. It apologises for what he's about to do, but explains that he'll see her again one day, and that the gift in the box will make sure of that.
A compass. One that, when she uses her technicality, lights up the needle and points it towards Riley. A way that she'll always be able to find him. Oleander explains that Riley asked him to give it to her once everybody stopped looking for him… but he didn't. Instead he hid it away in his room, afraid of losing her too. Wynn's obviously angry, but can understand why he did it. She's already planning how she's going to get out of Prodigal, and invites Oleander to come with her, but he refuses- too afraid of the outside world after spending his whole life in the facility.

A few weeks pass as she plans her escape, doing her best to keep up appearances.

The night comes for her to enact her escape, the evening of a charity gala hosted by the Director of the entire Prodigal Institute. A time when the community will be bustiling with so many people she'll go unoticed… and the gates will be open.

Everything is going to plan and she makes it as far as the courtyard before someone spots her, but luckily its only Oleander. He's changed his mind and wants to go with her, and even brought her satchel; packed with supplies for her journey. With his help they both make it past the main gate, though there was no way it was going to be that easy. An alarm hidden inside Wynns' prosthetic leg and the two start to be persued by Prodigal staff. Eventually they're cornered on the cliffside clearning. Oleander taken down by an Elite, and Wynonna on the ground after her prosthetic was smashed.
Hope appears as Wynn is injected with an unidentifiable substance that brings her to her knees. While reeling, Hope gives her "grand speech" on how much potential Wynn has, and that is shecomes back now willingly, she'll be forgiven…
But Wynns' come to far to stop now, with the last of her strength she gets up and charges past Hope. Then throws herself off the edge of the cliff, falling into the water far below.

She wakes up in a heap of garbage on the shoreline. Injured, exhausted, and the sun shining brightly in her eyes. As her senses adjust she can hear a figure moving pieces of debris around and talking to her, but her ears are ringing to much to fully understand. Between hazy states of consciousness, she feels herself being taken somewhere, along with muffled words in a soothingly concerened tone.

Once her body finally decides to let her regain her senses properly, she finds herself in a small bedroom on a bed of blankets. Still in her ruined dress, but all her wounds have been cleaned and dressed. Her broken prosthetic removed and set neatly on a table. She tries to get up but quickly hits the floor, making her realise just how weak she is right now. The noise causes footsteps to start coming down the hall towards her and she quickly get to her feet (foot) with the furniture as support. Grabbing a shard of her broken prosthesis as a weapon just as a figure enters.

A tall, avian hybrid. Looking at her with wide-eyed shock at the sight of her defensive nature. They quickly raise their hands placatingly and explain that they found her, and brought her back to help. Wynonna isn't fully trusting, but at least lets them help and sets down her weapon for the time being.

They tell her that their name is Alto, and they work as a scavenger for the Safehouse- the place they currently are. They also explain that she's safe here, and that shes welcome to stay as long as she likes. Especially since shes healing from her injuries and needs a new leg.

Over the following couple of days she meets most of the people who live in the building. Babbs, the owner of the building and caretaker of everyone inside. Jonah, the go-to cook and first aider, and Jinora, who works as a trainer and physiotherapist.
